The Pirates running club have asked the GRA to share this information
Dear Greenside Resident
We would like to inform you of the Pirates Half Marathon that is scheduled to take place on the 16th February 2020. The run is the annual Pirates 21km road race that is run over Northcliff Hill and through the surrounding suburbs. This is the 43rd annual running of the event and it has been a staple in the February calendar for many years.
The start of the run is on Cruden Bay at 6am and as such there will be increased activity in your area in the morning. From there the runners will head into Linden and over Northcliff before returning to Pirates from Roosevelt Park. The route map is attached to show affected areas.
We have lodged an application to use Sir Lionel Phillips Park failing which there may be cars in the suburbs. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We expect runners to start arriving from 5am. The majority will depart swiftly after the event at 10am.
There are only partial road closures, marshals will be on duty, as will the JMPD. We do have JOC approval and the local ward councillor is aware of the event. All rubbish will be cleared post the race.
If you need to get out onto the road it won’t be a problem. All the entrances have traffic guards to assist with the flow of traffic. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
Kind Regards
Natalie Mills
