FIREWORKS – NEW YEAR’S EVE

Fireworks are only legally permitted on specific days in Johannesburg – and this includes New Year’s Eve between 11pm and 1am and New Year’s Day between 7pm and 10pm.

Any fireworks or crackers set off at any other time, or in a way that is dangerous or at a place where there are animals present, are ILLEGAL. Fireworks cannot be used in public places, such as schools, hospitals, or old age homes, or within 500 metres of a petrol station; Minors under the age of 16-years-old are not allowed to use explosives without the supervision of adults. If you believe someone is setting off fireworks illegally please report to JMPD / SAPS.

Also PLEASE take care of your pets who may be frightened by fireworks.

If you believe the use of fireworks should be legislated differently please address with the relevant authorities but it isn’t helpful to argue this on our suburb’s social media.
