Since the Greenside clean-up initiative launched in June 2019 , the smaller parks in the suburb are looking clean and tidy. In June the Greenside Resident’s Association partnered with local NGO, Let’s Work to do bi-weekly clean-ups in Greenside. Let’s Work, an Emmarentia-based NGO offers homeless men and women regular paid work cleaning up streets and parks, collecting litter and clearing vegetation and cutting grass.
This three-month pilot is funded by the GRA and sees five Let’s Work participants cleaning the road reserves along Hoylake Road and Greenway Road, they have cleared and tidied the small park on the corner of Hoylake and Greenway and they have tackled the road reserve on Gleneagles (between Sunningdale and Geers Rd).
“This project has proved really successful so far and we are delighted that we are starting to see a difference on our streets and in our smaller parks and we are very grateful to the residents that have already made donations.
“To continue the pilot and expand it, we need the support of the community. We are looking for regular financial contributions to help expand the project so we can tackle larger areas like Sir Lionel Philips Park and the Greenside business strip,” says Gillian Jones, head of the GRA Greening sub-committee.
